I am getting this error with a dataflow refresh.  

Data source credentials are missing or invalid. Please update the credentials for SQL in dataflows settings page and try again.

it is intermitant and appears at different points of the refresh.  The SQL server is on-prem and data being accessed via the BI Gateway.

Any advice...  or diagnostic thoughts would be greatful.

I guess your on-prem SQL is running 24/7 and is always accessable? No periodic maintenance or traffic restrictions in the main working time (just an idea)? I know about such traffic restrictions. We do it also in some cases.

Maybe you have too much parallel traffic where CPU of your gateway can´t handle it at the moment.

Your updates are succesful in earlier hours and after closing time.

I am looking to review this SQL side of this.  At the moment I don't have necessary access to confirm.

What happens when you update the credentials as requested?

I have re-entered the credentials assocaited with SQL connection, but we are still getting the occasional failure. This shows the pattern of success/faillures
