Recovery Key to migrate on premise gateway

Frankly, I was just trialing PowerBI and ended up creating a few reports that are now widely used in the business. For some I used a personal gateway and for some I used an on premise gateway. But for both, I used my machine. Now, I need to migrate the gateways to an on premise gateway on a different machine. I see that the Recovery Key is required to do this. However, I don't seem to have recorded the recovery key anywhere. (Obviously, I did not notice the line that says 'keep the recovery key safe'! while configuring the gateway) Is there a way to view the recovery key so that I can migrate the gateways and the reports to the new machine?

Hi @Rajiv,

As you said, currently gateway not contain these type of functions to manage the gateway.(you can only see the list of gateway connect states) I think this is a good ideal to improve the gateway, you can post this to ideal.

Thanks @Anonymous!

I somehow managed to recollect the recovery key and I was able to migrate the on premise gateway. Now I am trying to see if the reports using the personal gateway can also be migrated to the on premise gateway. Does anyone know if this is even possible? Or am I trying to do something the way it is not supposed to be done!

Cheers,

Rajiv

Hello -

Our IT person who created the on-prem gateway, lost the recovery key. How did you re-collect it?

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi @Rajiv,

>>Now I am trying to see if the reports using the personal gateway can also be migrated to the on premise gateway.

it is impossible to migrate the personal gateway to on premise gateway. You need to install specify version of gateway and link to your account.

Xiaoxin Sheng
