My question was about the workload. Sounds like you are doing more Import Mode refreshes than Direct Query. In that case you need a minimum of 16GB RAM. Your original consideration would work.

Small loads, datasets of max 1m
But I've read 9n chatgpt 🙂 using c5 or m5 large or xlarge with 8 cpu, 8 ram, ssd, and high network of up to 10g for aws on windows but I don't want to overspec on an ec2 prem gateway monthly $300 for only data refresh
I think with my my ms tenant being Ireland and 2 aws redshift serverless being in Virginia and Ireland I'm expecting latency but I also don't have many reports so I don't mind the extra few min on a refresh just don't want issues on report usage

Yes, import mode only
I guess I'm concerned when I have a combined datasource as 1 dataset added to 1 gateway but accross 2 different regions for latency
Do you have an prefered aws ec2 instance type in mind?
