Recommended AWS EC2 Configuration Instance Type for On-Prem Gateway across AWS Regions
Hi,
Is there a Recommended AWS EC2 Configuration Instance Type for On-Prem Gateway across AWS Regions
I have been considering it, but also aware of the cost for a gateway only. But with Microsoft Account in different region of the 2 AWS redshift regions, I'm concerned about performances & latency. Kindly advise?
| Instance Type | t3.xlarge |
| CPU | 4 |
| RAM | 16GB |
My question was about the workload. Sounds like you are doing more Import Mode refreshes than Direct Query. In that case you need a minimum of 16GB RAM. Your original consideration would work.

Depends on the workload. Are you expecting more Direct Query or more Import Mode?

Hi
Thank you for helping
Small loads, datasets of max 1m
But I've read 9n chatgpt 🙂 using c5 or m5 large or xlarge with 8 cpu, 8 ram, ssd, and high network of up to 10g for aws on windows but I don't want to overspec on an ec2 prem gateway monthly $300 for only data refresh
I think with my my ms tenant being Ireland and 2 aws redshift serverless being in Virginia and Ireland I'm expecting latency but I also don't have many reports so I don't mind the extra few min on a refresh just don't want issues on report usage

The one you mentioned sounds good for starters (have at least two cluster members!). You can monitor the load on the gateways and then decide if you need to upgrade or if you can downgrade.
