Real-Time Vehicle Tracking

Hi guys, my goal is to create a map visualistion depicting active live vehicles.

I have created a streaming data set on the power bi service, It includes columns for Vehicle Name/Date Time/Longitude/Latitude and it updates near real time (we currently have 6 vehicles).

I need help with the following:
Filter for the latest record of each of the 6 vehicles - therefore at any point in time on the map there should be only 6 icons.
Placing static stop points on the map (We have an excel file of the stops Latitude/Longitude but we don't know how to layer this in)
Layering routes across the roads between each stop (basically highlighting each route)
Replacing vehicle circle icon with an image of a bus.

Any support would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

  • This is a nice idea. I have to say I don't have all the answers but let's see what I can do to help. First of all you need the project to be a streaming dataset. Also known as push dataset or hybrid dataset.

    You have to add the vehicle in a visualization (in this case map) to get the following measure to work. The example is for latitude and it can apply to longitude:

    Last_Latitude =
    CALCULATE(
        AVERAGE( Table[LatitudeColumn] )
        , LASTDATE (Table[DatetimeColumn] )
    )

    About layers I don't think power bi has visualizations for that. You should create a second map for that.

    You can't change circle for cars icon.
    Hope something helps,
