Random Error for Expand/Collapse for Matrix in Power BI service

Hello Team,

We are facing random failure to expand/collapse icon for matrix in Power BI Service after June 2025 update.

Steps:
1) We have created field parameter to use as rows for expand/collapse in metrics visual (i.e. Country, State, City)
2) Value is coming from measure based on selection
3) If we select country only from 1st step then matrix displays country wise sales if we select country, state then matrix have expand/collapse for Country, State wise

Problem: 
Earlier it was working well but after update found issue that it's fail to expand/collapse randomly unless we remove and re-create fields for matrix.

Can you please suggest or look out this issue?

I have the same issue. I have several reports an those that have been updated and published within the last week have the issue that the +/- is not working anymore. In the ones that haven't been updated recently it is working fine.
This beahaviour I have even with visuals that haven't been changed, they were just part of the dashboard that was redeployed.

Yes @zsombor, Now as per update provided by Microsoft team they have fixed and it's working.

No, it is not fixed. It persist in both service and desktop. @jaysgovindiya from where do you have your information that is fixed?

I have raised support ticket to Microsoft and as received call from Team that they have deployed fix.

I have tested in UK region Power BI Service It's working well.

I am in West Europe (Netherlands) and my issue persists. I created a ticket as well, Microsoft contacted me and they are working on the ticket now. It seems that the issue is already known by them.

Then it seems that they fixed something else. I have several reports, the ones I did not touched the last days the +/- is working perfectly, the ones I touched are not working. I did not even touch the visualization itself just the I changed something in the PBIX file and redeployed. The problem is really severe, I have several reports that affected.

Update: Microsoft Team Resolved issue as it was from service related error as just received update.

The same happend to us today... It was working perfectly and stopped working. 

Do we know if they are going to fix it?

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft fabric community 
Try These steps to resolve -
Create a Field Parameter

Navigate to Modeling - New Parameter - Fields.

Select Country, State, and City.

This will generate a parameter table (such as LocationParam).

Create Matrix Visual

Add a Matrix visual to your canvas.

Drag LocationParam[Field] into the Rows area.

Add the [Sales] measure to Values.

Add a Slicer

Insert a slicer using LocationParam[Name].

Enable the multi-select option.

You can select:

• Only Country
• Country and State
• Or all three levels

Test Expand/Collapse

If multiple levels are selected (like Country and State), the expand/collapse (+/-) icons should appear.

Try expanding a Country row to display its States.

Please find the attached .pbix file for your reference.

Thanks @v-sshirivolu for sharing insights I have created in same way but if we add Clear all slicers button in same and publish in service at that time it's behaving randomly after clear all slicers as not able to expand in Power BI Service.

Hi @jaysgovindiya ,
Rather than using “Clear all slicers,” use a reset bookmark to restore the default slicer settings, such as having Country and State pre-selected. This helps maintain the internal link between matrix rows and field parameter selections.

Thank you for confirming. As the reset bookmark workaround does not consistently resolve the issue, it appears this may be a regression in the Power BI Service following the June 2025 update. The expand/collapse feature functions correctly in Power BI Desktop but intermittently fails in the Service, particularly after using "Clear all slicers" or bookmark-based resets. This points to a service-side issue with how field parameters interact with slicer state and matrix visuals after clearing or resetting.

If the problem persists despite these workarounds, I suggest submitting a support request through the official Microsoft Power BI Support page.

Thanks @v-sshirivolu exactly I raised support request since last two days they told me that it's issue and working on resolution.

Hope they can resolve soon.

I have the same problem, the rows where I have the field parameter do not collapse in Power BI Service. In the Desktop it works.
