RLS not working with dynamic user names

Hi,

We have a followed all the samples on how to use the ()USERNAME in power bi service and desktop.  Here is my issue.  I can test it in Power BI Desktop.  It works.  I publish to my workspace or even a group workspace, it does nothing.  I share as a content pack, it does not work.

What am I doign wrong that it works in Desktop, but not on the service.  If this is not available yet, can you provide guideance on when it will be available.

Our use case is as follows:

We have thousands of branches and we want the branch manager to be able to log in and only see his branches data.  That then rolls up to regional managers and directors with all of them only being able to see what they are responsible.  All their names are associated to a location.  This is to avoid making thousands of workgroups and dashboards filtered on the Branch/region/director information respectively.

  • Hi,

I solved this by finding a couple video's from the CubeGuy.  In his video he explains that the people viewing the information have to be set as "read only" access.  I missed this as I am an admin and have full access.  I tested with other users, who are only members (we set members to read only), and it worked perfectly.  Love it!!!!  Great work Power BI people!!
