RDS postgres connection to fabric failed

Hi,
So when I was trying to connect aws rds postgresql database to fabric. It threw an error which said

"An error happened while reading data from the provider: 'A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond'
inner exception: An error happened while reading data from the provider: 'A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond'
clientRequestId: 90c5e98a-ee9f-4d91-9f78-xxxxxxxx

Session ID: 5165ff50-4a56-433b-b834-xxxxxxxx"

This could be because of not whitelisting the right ip for fabric in rds security group, so can someone help with the ip adress that fabric uses, which can be whitelisted in our database ?

  • Hi. As far as I remember, only redshift can connect to Power Bi without a gateway. Otherwise you need a driver and an onpremise data gateway. In this case an EC2 at AWS like your RDS. I haven't read any article or post showing this has changed in order to connect directly.

When working with AWS like that, there is windows certificate that you might need to add for reading the source. It's kind of tricky, but the following post can help you walkthough: https://blog.ladataweb.com.ar/post/187904496250/conectar-power-bi-a-rds-postgres-en-aws

    I hope that helps,
