    Hi pennyhoho117

    • Publishing a report: Create in Power BI Desktop, compress with VertiPaq locally, publish to Power BI Service, and encrypt data at rest in the service. Power BI uses Microsoft-managed encryption by default, with an option for BYOK.

    • Querying an existing report: Data is encrypted in transit via the gateway, then compressed by VertiPaq in Power BI Service. Publishing compresses first, then encrypts, while querying encrypts first, then compresses.

    • The 1GB limit refers to the compressed data model size, checked during publishing. Larger datasets require a premium workspace.

    • Opening a report: Data at rest is encrypted, report visuals are cached for performance, and live queries occur only if fresh data is needed.
