Question about dashboard auto refresh with Sharepoit

Hi comminity, I have a question:

 

If I set the auto refresh where my datasource is loceted in sharepoint... do I still need the  gateway for on-premises data sources? 

Ive been reading but Im not sure when they say that you don´t need it with "sharepoint online"....

 

Appreciate any advice or link where I could learn about it.

    Hi Anonymous ,

     

    Files stored on SharePoint online are auto refreshed. SharePoint are an online source and hence are not auto refreshed but can be configured to refresh from Power BI.

    When you setup a refresh schedule, Power BI will connect directly to the data sources using connection information and credentials in the dataset to query for updated data, then load the updated data into the dataset. Any visualizations in reports and dashboards based on that dataset in the Power BI service are also updated.
