Question Regarding DirectQuery and Enterprise Gateway

Hi,

 

I had a genral question regarding the DirectQuery mode.

We are hosting a dashboard with a SQL server data source that is connected to via DirectQuery mode.

I was wondering if the DirectQuery, for the PBI web, is performed via gateway or not?

The reason I am asking was that I did not see an option on the datasets to set this to be connected via gateway ( as opposed to the regular import ) and in our case, only the gateway can reach the SQL server, so if PBI tries to reach the SQL, depending on where the query comes from, it may fail ( while the gateway can always reach )

    Alkhos DQ mode for power bi service to sql server does require gateway (pesonal, or on-premise gateway). Without gateway report connected using DQ mode when published to power bi service will not show you anything in pbi service. Check more details here.
