Publishing to a Client's PBI Service

I have a client for whom I create visualizations in Desktop and then publish to their PBI service. To do this the client has given me his own username and password in order to publish the material.

I now have another client that wants me to develop PBI material for them, but they do not want to give me their credentials, and I certainly can understand their unwillingness to do that. The question is, what is the best practice for me to get credentials to sign in and publish to the client's PBI service?

Hi @CraigSchulz,

You could ask them to create an App WorkSapce, add your account as a workspace member with Edit permission. Also, those clients should be added into the workspace. When you finished a report, you can publish the report to that APP workspace instead of your own workspace.

Collaborate in your Power BI app workspace

Thanks. I tried this with another client, and I could only be added as a guest because my email indicates I am not part of their firm. Is that as it should be? Can you still publish to the Service as a guest? What credentials will be asked for? I'm still confused, sorry.

Are they against creating credentials for you for their office 365 tenant space?  If they did that, then they could provision an app workspace to you where you could be admin/editor of that specific workspace.  It would allow you to maintain the solution that you provided them in the event that something changes with datasources/gateway, or requirements.

You would be acting as a third party content provider in this secnario and they would be locking your credentials down to that app workspace only.
