Publishing the dashboard
Hello Experts,
I have a power bi dashboard with data source in a remote desktop based SQL Server instance. With this data, a dashboard is created and is published in Power BI Service. I need to refresh on specific intervals which now I am doing with personal gateway setup. But when my system sleeps , as you know data source update would fail and hence dashboard view wouldn't update. Could you help me how could solve this? If we set up an on premise gateway(standard) in the remote desktop, could that solve the issue?
Hi. Yes it will. It's recommended to install a Standard/Enterprise Gateway instead of personal at a VM that will be on 24/7 just in case anyone wants to refresh. The VM should have access to the data. You can also use the same machine where the data is hosted, it's not the best practice because you don't want to take resources from that one for refreshing the data, you only want that one to work on the database alone.
I hope that helps,
