Publishing from Desktop overwrite report

According to your description, I think you have not understood the suggestion I gave before.
If you don’t want to add a new dataset to your workspace when you publish your report to your workspace again, you should try to use the “Connect to Power BI dataset” method to connect to the data source instead of changing the existed pbix file downloaded of Service, like this:
Then search and select your dataset:
Then create a new report to publish to Power BI service.

According to this error message, I think the reason is that you have connected to one data source in this pbix file. To use the live connection in Power BI, you can only connect to one data source.
As a result, I suggest you to create a new pbix file to connect to this dataset to avoid this problem.
What’s more, there is a new feature that allows DirectQuery for Power BI datasets and Azure Analysis Services, you can take a look and find if it can help you to achieve more requirements:
