Publishing from Desktop overwrite report
Hi,
I have a workpace "Reporting" with a report "Report1" and a dataset "Master".
When I am using the same dataset from power bi desktop and I publish the report, the existing "Report1" is overwritten.
Before, It was not overwritting but adding a second report named "Master".
I don't know why it is changing.
Can someone know how to do to not overwrite the existing report?
I do not want to create the report from web because I have added some calculation in the dataset.
thanks a lot

Hi, azizdoghmi
According to your description, you want to create a report using the same dataset and publish it to service without replacing the original version of the report. I think you can try to click the “save as” and use the different name to save the pbix file again, and the report will be published to service without replacing the original version of the report, like this:
And you can get what you want.
More info about connecting to dataset in Power BI desktop

Hi v-robertq-msft ,
Thanks for your help.
Unfortunately, when I use a different name it creates a new dataset also.
I need to have the same dataset for the 2 reports.

Hi, azizdoghmi
According to your description, you want to publish a new report to the same workspace from the Power BI desktop and don’t add a new dataset in the workspace, I think you can try to connect to the dataset in the desktop and publish to the same workspace. After my test, this method will add a new report to the workspace without adding the same dataset with another name, you can take a look at my method:
- Connect to the dataset in desktop:
- Then create the report, click save as to name the report with a different name
- Then go to the Service, I found the report is added and the dataset is same as before:
And you can achieve what you want. For more information, please check this document:
