Published but Disconnected Issue in Power BI Service
- 6 months ago
Hi makshata96
Why “Published but disconnected” happens
-
Power BI Service can’t authenticate to the data source (credentials/gateway issue).
Most common fixes
-
Re-enter credentials
Service → Dataset → Settings → Data source credentials. -
Configure Gateway (for on-prem data)
Install gateway → Map dataset to it. -
No local file paths
C:\...won’t work in Service. Use SharePoint/OneDrive or gateway. -
Check dynamic sources
Dynamic URLs/paths break Service refresh.
Rule of thumb
-
Desktop works = local access
-
Service fails = cloud can’t reach or authenticate
If you want, tell me the data source type and I’ll give the exact fix.

Hi johnbasha33
Thanks for your help but actually if we use any database, we have to connect that database name using the data gateway After that when we publish again it shows as successful.
