Publish to web security

Hi,

 

I'm wondering: when I click on "publish to web", does my data get immediately compromised or that only happens after I share the link with someone or embed the code in a public website?

    If some one knows your report embeded code then only they can see the report in Power BI Service even they can't export or edit the data from report.

     

    As per my knowledge publish to web is not recommandle in organizations.

    Hi,

     

    I was wondering: when I click publish to web to generate an url or embed code, is my data immediately compromised? Or does it become compromised only when I share the link with someone or embed the iframe in a public website?

    Nope, it just means your data is published as public information, so everyone who know this embed code can view it.
    It not means someone can edit or do other operation to affect your source data.

        Yes, you are right. I have read several sources that mention the method of publish to web is not recommended for security reasons.

         

        I'm just trying to figure out if I should be worried, but if you tell me that only the person that has the embed code can view the report, I think I may be fine, because I want to create an intranet website, that only one person can access.

         

        Granted that a zero risk solution never exists. If someone can hack into the pentagon, then I know that no matter what I do, there's always some level of risk.

         

        What I'm trying to figure out is the amount of risk I'm taking, and it seems that the risk in this case is acceptable to me.

    If you delete the embedded code and the report and the dataset related to it, is it posssible someone to still recover the data that has been published?

      No you can't return the data back.

       

      as of now do not have option to to recover data
