Publish Dataset from Service

Hello,

 

I have a SQL server connection that was set up in PowerBI service. However, I cannot access this connection without it being published. Is there a way to just publish this dataset from the sql server connection in PowerBI Service? The goal is to use this dataset in PowerBI Desktop for further development.

    Hi AnotherBIUser 

     

    You always have to create a dataset before you can then use the data and the underlying data source.

      Is there documentation for creating a dataset in Service from a SQL service connection? I do not see the option:

    Hi AnotherBIUser ，

     

    The connection shown in your picture creates a connection between the dataset and the gateway for you to refresh for use in the service. You can connect to the datasource directly through desktop, finish the development, and then publish to service, after that your refresh will use the connection you created.
