Problem to connect Excel to a Dataset using Get Data
Hi,
I'm trying to use the new functionalities to connect directly an excel to a PowerBI dataset. Actually I'm using the analyze in excel downloading the file from the dataset of the PowerBI service, but now, i'm trying to do directly from excel but the system doesnt found anything.
I do the following steps
- Open Excel
- Data --> Get data from PowerBI
- but after that i see the following error
It is in spanish, but it seems that it can't found datasets, etc. When i have a lot of workspaces and datasets in my tenant of PowerBI Service
i have the last version of the drivers of Analyze in Excel and my user account is Pro user and i have admin role in the workspaces.
So, really i dont know the reason. If i paste the string connection from an analyze in excel i can take the info but doing this i cannot. Maybe it is something that i need to enabled in the tennat of powerbi service but i'm not sure.
Can someone help me on this? Thanks!

Not sure what exactly you are trying to achieve. Do you want to run queries against the XMLA endpoint? If so, what type of queries? DAX, MDX, DMX ?
Note that Analyze in Excel doesn't "download" data. It connects live to the data model .

Hi, dobregon
After my search, There is really little relevant information. Has your excel version been upgraded to the latest?
Is your data set certified and promoted?

Thanks a lot for the reply, and sorry for the delay in me response, is it only available when y put certified my dataset? i have tried using promoted and i can't connect the excel to the dataset, i see the same error.
once it is certified, is it possible to select only people to see that dataset in the excel? or every people in the workspace or access to the dataset will see the dataset in the excel?

This has nothing to do with promoted or certified. Your users need the have build permissions on the dataset. The only restriction you can apply is via RLS. If that is not enough then you must use separate workspaces.

Just tried on my side and it works as expected. The connection details are exactly the sames as if I had used Analyze in Excel ("pbiazure://..") - you said Analyze in Excel works? If yes then maybe you have a glitch in the authentication process somewhere?
