Problem Sharing Dashboards-first time users do not have access
- 9 years ago
Hi APACK01,
Did you share the dashboard from the group workspace or My Workspace? I got information from PG if share dashboard from group:
"This is by design for now, we will have a design change at the beginning of next year.
Temporary Workarounds: Either share the dashboard from My Workplace, or log into the user before attempting to share the dashboard."
Best Regards,

Hi APACK01,
As you mentioned the issue occurred last month, did you tried to share a dashboard to see if the issue persists currently?
Best Regards,
Qiuyun Yu
Yes, it has been happening since last month and is still happening. Interestingly, when someone logs in for the first time (successfully), and then tries to access the dashboard via link or notification (unsuccessfully), they usually inform me. After that I re-share it with them, and they now have two entries on the "Access" tab, the original one showing their email address, and the new one shows their full name, obviously pulled back from AD. As Anonymous mentioned, this may be normal, but it is still a clunky way to introduce PowerBI to managers.

I can't say I'm happy with the design, but the workaround is suitable for the time being. Thanks for the information!

Can anyone provide an update on when this will be fixed. The workaround of sharing from My Workspace does not work for me so I actually have no workaround available at all.

Same here. Trying to see the silver lining - for our small scale projects, I usually schedule time to walk folks through first-time login, which actually helps start off the relationship. They feel more comfortable reaching out for help, which has helped us increase adoption. Still pretty painful though!

I get this error for MY OWN dashboard that I published to the workspace after clicking the link I copied out of the "share" window. Surely that can't be by design? Workspace members can't view it either.
