Presenting PowerBI Live Report on TV Screen in Office

We need to present a live, rotating (between pages) report on a tv screen. This is currently possible throught the "Microsoft Power BI" app. However I saw a message stating its retirement will come in December.

Is there another way to achieve this simply?

Hi @byates ,

Good question, this was already a pretty tough problem to solve in Power BI, moreso now that the Power BI viewer app is being retired.

A few options come to mind:

  • I'm assuming they willl leave the app up on the Microsoft Store, it just won't be supported anymore. So continue at your own risk, so to speak.
  • There's a few Chrome extensions that kinda-sorta-but-not-really try to solve this problem. They are all pretty much autoclickers and none of them are good. I know, I used to maintain a really popular one back in the day on Github.
  • You can build a custom solution yourself using concepts from Power BI Embedded as well as the Power BI Javascript SDK. BE PREPARED TO DO SOME WORK.

Or...

If you're interested, I made a custom, cross-platform Power BI digital signage app called Displagent for this exact need - turns out it is much more difficult to solve than most people in the Power BI community realize. Anyways, it comes with some powerful features like being able to build slideshows piece-by-piece for Power BI reports (won't find this in any other app anywhere, I built this from scratch), setup Autolaunch on machine startup, and other such features.

I run Displagent solo, I have a free 14-day trial, happy to extend it, help with whatever, or answer any questions even if you don't use my app.

Hope some of that helps!
