Hello all,
What would the best way to connect PowerBI (premium per user) to an on premise navision 2018 database?
How much would a directquery hinder performance? If so,are there any better solutions/alternatives?
Thanks in advance !

Hi, @Anonymous
To connect to the Navision 2018 database with the Power BI, you can use the Dynamics NAV connector in Power BI Desktop, please follow the guide in the article below to get the URL, user name, and password:
https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Power-Query/Get-data-from-Dynamics-NAV-2018/m-p/460764
When you are using the DirectQuery, the overall experience depends very much on the performance of the underlying data source. The acceptable responding time is usually less than 5 seconds. If your data amount is not very large and you don’t need the displayed data to be changed frequently, you can just use the import mode to connect to the data or try to follow the Directquery best practice for the performance imoprovment guidiance.
DirectQuery also has many limitations, for more information, you can refer to this document:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/desktop-directquery-about
Thank you very much!
