Helper VPowerBi App, Paginated Report and subreports
Hi all,
I have a paginated report which has an internal sub-report. The sub-report contains details which are embedded into a table, so cannot be included in the main report directly.
I have published the paginated report in the app, but unless I also publish the subreport and make this available to all audiencies (that have access to the main report), then the main report fails to show the subreport. The subreport is internal, so I do not want this to be executed or displayed to users, and I thought the whole premise behind PowerBi apps was to create a presentation layer to remove a lot of the detail behind workspaces.
Hopefully someone can please share a workaround or solution 🙂

In Power BI Paginated Reports, when a sub-report is used internally within the main report, it must still be published separately and made accessible to users who need to view the main report. This is because the main report relies on the sub-report as a separate entity, and Power BI requires all referenced reports to be accessible for successful rendering. While Power BI Apps do provide a presentation layer to abstract workspace details, they do not encapsulate sub-reports within the main report. One possible workaround is to embed the sub-report’s content directly into the main report using nested tables or expressions, but as you've mentioned, this might not be feasible due to the structure of your report. Alternatively, you could restrict access to the sub-report by limiting permissions within the workspace while ensuring it remains accessible for execution. Another option is to explore embedding techniques or parameter-based visibility controls that prevent direct user interaction with the sub-report while allowing the main report to function correctly.

Pavan.The problem with paginated reports, and especially subreports is that microsoft does not stand behind their products.
Paginated reports was recently added to power BI pro users licenses to encourage use, but it is by far the most buggy experience, the debugging is beyond anything production value, and its best to stay away.
