    MacJasem If I got you right you said you had to convert the excel file to xlsx. therefore it means you were on another format. 
    as docs and lbendlin state xls and other formats are not supported (especially with dataflows) and give you that error.

    can you try to put on sharepoint a brand new excel XLSX and try again with dataflow (that should run on cloud 99%).
    I'm wondering if even convertion (I expect you did save as from excel) keeps some metadata in the file that make it uncompatible with the standard driver.
