PowerBI Online - Line/ Area Chart Issue after the July Update

After the latest update I am having this this issue on the online version of PBI where if I have a single measure in the y axis and some category in x axis (for example months) I am not able to change the color of the line. The box is greyed out. I can do it month by month it doesnt allow me when "All" is selected.

When "All" is selected I get this message to select a series and color cannot be touched.

All this with a fresh new report, in a fresh workspace. If we go back to my actual report, I can work on it on the desktop version and change the colour normally but when I publish it defaults to blue. Older line charts remain with their colour before the update but on the online version they are locked"

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Hi theo_s

I am also seeing the same issue after the July 2026 update in Power BI Service.

This is a known UI bug with Line/Area charts when you have "Single measure + Category axis".

When "All" is selected under Format > Data colors, the color picker gets greyed out and defaults to blue.
It still works fine in Power BI Desktop and for reports published before the update.

Workarounds that are working right now:

    1. Temporary Fix: Add a Legend
Drag any field to the Legend well. Now you will get separate series and the color option will unlock for each. After changing colors, you can remove the Legend if you don't need it.

    2. Desktop Fix:
Change the line color in Power BI Desktop and publish. It will keep that color in Service. But if you edit it in Service again, it will reset to blue.

    3. Use Conditional Formatting:
Format > Data colors > Advanced controls > Conditional formatting based on a field.

This looks like a bug introduced in the July update. I have also upvoted and reported it on the Fabric Ideas page.

Hope Microsoft fixes this soon in the next update.

Thank you for the helpful reply Gautam_Kumar01 !
Well, for me the weird part is that number 2 doesnt work and thats how I actually noticed.
When I publish from desktop, old line charts are fine, they keep the colours they had before update.
But if I add a new one, when I publish it resets to blue on the online version. And the weirdest part... if I download the file from online and open in desktop it's back to the correct color.
