PowerBI - Live Excel data

Hello,

I am hoping this is an easy question, but I am new to PowerBI and am stuck...

I have successfully synced a number of Salesforce reports to my PowerBI dashboard, but I am wondering how do I also add data from an Excel doc?

I have an Excel doc saved in SharePoint that my team members add data to weekly. I was hoping to display its live data within the same dashboard as my other datasets. Is it possible to sync live data from Excel with PowerBI?

Thanks in advance,

Roisin

Hi @rsweeney ,

You can create a composite model and try to refresh 8 times in a day if you have pro workspace and in premium you refresh 48 times in a day.

Or

You can try this idea too.

I hope it will be helpful.

Thanks,

HI,@rsweeney

Regarding the issue you raised, my solution is as follows:

1.First, you can download the data gateway and sign up with your work account.

Here are the relevant download links:

Power BI Gateway | Microsoft Power BI

The following is the relevant documentation, I hope it will be helpful to you:

Use a personal gateway in Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

2.Next, go to the Create connections page to create a local connection or cloud connection:

3.Finally, configure the scheduled refresh on the Semantic Model Settings page:

4.You can check if the refresh was successful in the refresh history:

If live means once a week or once a day, you can schedule refresh on it. Is it SharePoint Online (having .sharepoint.com in the address) or on-premise? If it's online, you don't need a gateway. I did a tutorial here for SPO if that helps.

@rsweeney
Above tutorial is good for scheduling your excel refresh once a week.
If you connect to Sales Force through direct query, you may need to create a composite model (as mentioned ealier by @SaiTejaTalasila ),as the Excel file data will use Import mode.

if you need more info on the modes.. Here:

how "live" do you need? real-time, refresh every minute or every hour?

One a week would be fine, but more frequent would be even better.
