PowerBI Development and Usage report

Hi everyone! I'm looking for a report where I can see across all workspaces the following:

  • Dashboards or Paginated Reports that have timed out by day
  • Information on who runs what (Dashboards/Paginated reports/Semantic Models)?
  • Last modification of report dates?

Is it possible to get something like that?

Thanks

Hi @julsr ,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community forum.

@rajendraongole1  Thanks for your prompt resposnse.

In addition to @rajendraongole1 ,

  • Regarding your first question, unfortunately, Power BI does not have a built-in feature that provides a Usage Metric report across all workspaces simultaneously, including timeout functionality. The Usage Metric report is typically available at the individual report level.
  • As for your second question, you're correct that if auditing wasn't previously enabled, you won't have access to historical audit data from past days.
  • Audit logs only start collecting data from the time auditing is turned on.

Hi @julsr  - Yes, it is possible to create a report that provides insights across all workspaces in Power BI, including information on dashboards or paginated reports that timed out, user activity, and report modification dates. However, this requires administrative privileges and relies on data from Power BI's Admin APIs, Activity Logs, and Workspaces metadata

Eg: , if you have access to ms 365 admin follow the steps as :

Enable Audit Logs in Microsoft 365 Admin Center:

Navigate to the Microsoft 365 Compliance Center → Audit → Audit log search.
Ensure auditing is enabled for your tenant.

Admin - REST API (Power BI Power BI REST APIs) | Microsoft Learn

Audit and usage admin settings - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn

Power BI REST APIs for embedded analytics and automation - Power BI REST API | Microsoft Learn

Hope these details helps.

Thanks! From your explanation, I understand this will enable data collection via PowerShell (similar to what's explained in this video), right?

I have two more questions:

  1. Does Power BI have a built-in feature similar to the Usage Metric report that works across all workspaces simultaneously and includes timeout functionality, rather than analyzing one report at a time?
  2. If not, and I implement your suggested approach - since auditing wasn't previously enabled, I won't have access to historical audit data from past days, correct?

Thanks
