PowerBI Dataset size limit in Fabric capacity

Hi All,

I was wondering what is PowerBI Dataset size limit in Fabric capacity.

I know that in Fabric, storage is de-capuled form compute so if you are using direct lake storage mode then dataset size limit doesn't matter.

Howevere, what is I want to host my PowerBI datasets in a more afordable Fabric capacity, and have them in import mode becouse my source data is SQL.

P1 which is equivalent to F64 has got 25GB dataset limit, what about Fabric capacities below F64?

Any thoughts more then welocme

Hi @wojciech ,

There is no data volume limitation for a load for either DirectQuery or Import. However, when you publish a pbix file over 1GB to Power BI Service, you will get limitation error message. That is to say, the data set of a single pbix file you are going to publish must be smaller than 1 GB. Power BI Premium supports uploads of Power BI Desktop (.pbix) files that are up to 10 GB in size. Once uploaded, a dataset can be refreshed to up to 12 GB in size. To use a large dataset, publish it to a workspace that is assigned to Premium capacity.

Reference:

File size limit increase to 1 GB

Power BI Premium support for large datasets

Thank you Pratyasha,

In plain english, if I want a large dataset in import mode, they need to be hosted on PowerBI Premium capacity as Fabric capacity won't support it?

Power BI Premium does support large datasets. Enable the Large dataset storage format option to use datasets in Power BI Premium that are larger than the default limit.

With Premium capacities, large datasets beyond the default limit can be enabled with the Large dataset storage format setting. When enabled, dataset size is limited by the Premium capacity size or the maximum size set by the administrator.
