PowerBI - Changes are not reflected after publishing

Hello community,

Recenlty, i faced a very strange problem.  i made some changes to my PBIX file. and then i published to the Power BI service. the problem is that the changes that i made to the PBIX file is not reflected in the Service.

when i published the report to the workspace( the workspace already has the report published previously), it showed me that the publish is succeed . but the Date refresh needs to be configured.

i also try to publish this report to another workspace( this is the first time that i publish the report to this workspace), i can see the same message (publish is succeed, but the dataset refresh need to be configured),  i check the report that i published in the second workspace, and noticed that the changes that i made to the PBIX file are reflected in the service.

does anyone faced this same issue ?  what could be the reason and how to resolve this issue ? thanks in advance.

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

Hi @rohit1991

i found out the reason finally, the reason is that this PBIX does not contains the sensitivity label ( because this PBIX is saved from a PBIP file , for PBIP file, it's does not  support sensitivity lable), when i save the PBIP file as a PBIX file, i forgot to set the sensitivity label . the report that i previously published to the workspace has the "General" sensitivity label, and now i publish the report without sensitivity label.  it will not be accepted when the report is published to workspace .

thanks again for your time and great support. really appreciated!

Hi @sunyangjun1115

When you publish a report to an existing workspace (especially if the report already exists there), Power BI often says the publish was successful, but behind the scenes, it might not always refresh the report visuals immediately even though the dataset is updated. In many cases, it’s just a caching issue. Try doing a hard refresh (Ctrl + F5) on the report in the service or clearing your browser cache that usually forces the updated version to load.

What’s interesting is that when you published to a different workspace for the first time, the changes showed up right away which makes sense because it was treated as a brand-new report, so no caching or overwriting issues came into play.

As a quick test, try slightly renaming the report in Desktop before publishing (like adding _new to the report name). If the updated version appears correctly, it confirms it was a cache or overwrite glitch.

Hi @rohit1991

thanks so much for your prompt support.

i tried to save the PBIX file as a new one ( with the newe file name).   and publish it to the workspace which has issue previouly.   the result is that all the changes that i made to the PBIX file can be reflected in the service.

i followed your instruction to refreh the report page in the service and cleaning the broswer cache ,  but it does not work.

i also share the link of the report to my colleagues, they have the same issue(can't see the changes that i made in the PBIX file).

Hi @sunyangjun1115

Try this:

  1. Delete only the Report (not the dataset) from the workspace.

           a. Go to the workspace.

           b. Click the ellipsis (…) next to the report.

           c. Choose Delete Report.

           d. Do NOT delete the dataset if it’s already scheduled or used elsewhere.

  1.   Then, re-publish the same PBIX file from Power BI Desktop.

           a. This will publish both the report and the dataset afresh, and the report visuals will now reflect                   your latest changes.

  1. After publishing, configure your data source credentials again if needed, especially if your dataset uses gateway or cloud connectors.

Thank you.

Hi @rohit1991

thank you for your detailed instruction.

i tried to delete the report from the workspace and keep the dataset . after publish the PBIX file. it shows that "Publishing is complete, however, no report url was returned, Please verify your report in Power BI service"

then i checked the report in the workspace, unfortunately, i can't find the report there, only the dataset exist .

my temporary solution is to save the PBIX file as a new file name ,and then publish it to the workspace.  this is working.
