Hi ,
I'm encountering a problem with a Power BI app where I've embedded a PowerApps visual to capture user input. The PowerApps screen includes three input fields, a primary key, and a submit button. Both PowerApps and Power BI are connected to the same SQL database and have been saved and published.
Despite publishing the app, the input form is not appearing as expected in Power BI. Instead, I'm seeing the following error message: [Attach screenshot of error message].
I've verified the connections, data sources, and formulas within both PowerApps and Power BI, but haven't been able to resolve the issue.
Could you please provide guidance on potential causes for this behavior or suggest troubleshooting steps?
Thanks
Shinu
Hi,lbendlin ,thanks for your concern about this issue.
Your answer is excellent!
And I would like to share some additional solutions below.
Hello,@Shinu1 .I am glad to help you.
Although I'm too good at Power APPs, I have the following suggestions for your issue after talking to other members of the team.
For the gray reminder on your screenshot, it shows that as the creator of the app has the right to see and use the Power APP, when you embed the app as a visual into the desktop, you need to make sure that the users who will access the report in the future will have the right to access the app, so for the system reminder on your screenshot, you need to share the Power app to the users who need to view the report in the future. Users who view that report. Avoid them accessing the report without being able to see the app visual.
2.For your issue, what I understand now is that you have embedded a Power app whose connection data source is Azure SQL Server into the desktop's report via the Power app viusal in the desktop.
You are now asking how to configure a gateway connection for the power app.
I have found the documentation for this and I hope it will help you:
URL:
Manage an on-premises data gateway in Power Apps - Power Apps | Microsoft Learn
Manage connections in canvas apps - Power Apps | Microsoft Learn
Create a canvas app from Azure SQL Database - Power Apps | Microsoft Learn
Unfortunately due to workplace constraints I am unable to reproduce your requirement (connecting to Azure SQL Database to create apps)
You can manage your gateway as well as the gateway connection in Power APPs, as well as see what apps are using that gateway connection.
Oddly enough, you should not need to use a gateway connection to connect to a cloud data source. Because both the data source and the app are in the cloud, there is no need for a gateway connection.
Here is my query
What is the actual problem you need to solve now, is it the later question of how to create a gateway connection for the Power APP, or is it the problem with the power app viusal display in Power BI Desktop (the content in the app is not showing up fully) that you asked about in the first place.
If it's the latter, please recheck that the layout on the app on https://make.preview.powerapps.com/home is working properly. See if the issue is only for the visual display on desktop.
If you can, please re-detail what you need to fix now, and if you can upload a screenshot of the error report that doesn't contain sensitive data, this will help to resolve your issue.
I hope my suggestions give you good ideas, if you have any more questions, please clarify in a follow-up reply.
Best Regards,
Carson Jian,

I'm using the Power BI Desktop version and later publishing it to workspace. The Power BI report on workspace has connection to Cloud Azure hene on premises gateway is not requried.
I'm not sure how to create a gateway connection in PowerApp. The PowerApp app was built using the PowerApps visual add in available in Power BI.
Please guide me if i'm missing anything to do.
The error is on my desktop Power BI application. The sql used is on Azure Cloud. I selected the option Cloud connection. I didnt create any gateway connection.
That's not an error message, and it is unrelated to your issue.
Is the error on Power BI Desktop or in the service? Is your SQL Server on-premise? Do you have a gateway? Did you create a gateway connection in your PowerApp?
