Hi,
I have a dashboard that is based on a few excel files that I stored on sharepoint. Those excels have to be updated with data manually and when i do so, i go to power bi service and refresh the data source and expect the data in the dashboard to be updated. It does not happen. For the data to be updated I have to open the pbix in powerbi desktop press the refresh and republish it. I would like it to be updated only from power bi service so others can do the update also.
Start by storing your Excel files in a SharePoint Online document library. Next, establish a connection between SharePoint Online and your Power BI Desktop by using the web option. Navigate to SharePoint, copy the path of the document library containing your files, and import this path into Power BI Desktop. After importing, republish the report to your workspace. You now have the option to refresh the data directly from your workspace or set up a scheduled refresh as needed.
Try Uploading the excel over One Drive for Business and make the data source of the PBI to be excel on OneDrive for Business and it should work. If you want to use the SharePoint Server as the source then you have to use On-prremise Gateway for Power BI
