Power bi license

Hi Everyone!!

 

I created a one power bi report & published in a workspace.In my organization i only had the pro account license.So my manager suggested me to create a web page and link to our dashboard to that webpage. after this webpage should be hosted in one system.In that by using my credentials the dashboard should be hosted.Whatever we are planning to do means with out authentication the internal users should access that dashboard.No one is having license.By using my account credentials they want to do this. suggest me how to do this?

    Hi. This is way more complex that it looks like. The way power bi works would be like this:

    - Pro licenses (shared capacity). The workspaces are developed by pro and can be shared only with pro users. 

    - Power Bi Embedded (license for development). This license allows you to develop a web app and own the login. It's a hard work with many variables. You can also purchase apps built by other companies like https://azuremarketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/apps/pidata.pi-soft-pibi?tab=overview

    - Power Bi Premium: full capacity and features. The premium workspaces allow free users as viewers to read in there or the app.

    What you're describing isn't a supported or recommended deployment model for Power BI.

    Using your personal Power BI credentials to host a dashboard on a webpage so that other users can access it without signing in or without having the appropriate licenses is not supported and would violate Power BI security and licensing best practices.

    Here are the supported options:

    • Power BI Pro: Both the report publisher and every report consumer need a Power BI Pro license (unless the workspace is assigned to Premium/Fabric capacity).

    • Fabric Capacity / Power BI Premium Capacity: If the workspace is hosted on Fabric or Premium capacity, users with Free licenses can view reports through the Power BI Service or Apps.

    • Power BI Embedded: If you're developing a custom internal application, Power BI Embedded allows reports to be embedded in your application using a service principal or embed token. This requires Azure capacity and appropriate licensing.

    • Publish to web: This feature is not recommended for internal business reports because it makes the report publicly accessible on the internet and should only be used for non-confidential data.

    Rather than sharing one user's credentials, I'd recommend discussing one of the supported licensing options with your administrator. Sharing credentials can create security, auditing, and compliance issues, and Microsoft does not recommend it.
