Power Bi performance - Desktop Vs Published Workspace
- 2 years ago
Luckily Power BI can handle billions of records and the visual will always show. What should be done though is to optimize your visual in desktop before going to service. There are many technical ways to do that including raising your RAM. But before going premium you need to watch this video to better make decisions
Hi Barkop_1
For sure more RAM better performance of Power BI Desktop.
In the service same thing and that's what makes the difference between Shared Capacity WS and Premium Capacity
What do you mean "In the service same thing"?.
Does it mean that even though I published report on services and open it via browser (shot down my desktop app) its performance will still be dependent on my laptops RAM memory?
Because intuitively i would assume that the calculations in this case would depend on some services resources + my internet connection (meaning calculations are being done elsewhere and I just get the result to my browser via internet connection).

In the Service = Power BI Service. Once you publish the report to the service, Memory, Calculations, Performance... all taken over by the SaaS (Power BI Service). Your Desktop will have no effect on the reports

Ok so I understand that even thought my visualisations do not load on my laptop, they might work when published on Power BI Service (depending also on whether i have Shared Capacity WS or Premium Capacity). Unfortunatelly I can not check it yet.
But what if the visualisations don't show up even when published on Premium Capacity?
And my table is as simple as it can be (its simple but huge, and it has to stay this way, to proberly count distinct IDs and averages values), and my dax measures are simple as thay can be.
What would be the next step to asure that my users will be able to see the resoults in the published report?
