Power Bi, OneLake, Fabric, ...

Maybe my question seems offtopic, but this community is the last place where i can get clear explanation to my question
I am a begginer in this sphere. Can you explain difference between OneLake, Fabric, Data Lake, Lake House, Warehouse what they are and how do they connect to Power Bi

  • Hi tokhir - A unified data platform by Microsoft, incorporating multiple data tools, including Power BI.
    OneLake: The centralized data storage in Fabric, serving as a unified data lake.
    Data Lake: A general concept for large-scale data storage; in Azure, this is often Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS).
    Lakehouse: Combines data lake flexibility with data warehouse structure, suitable for mixed-use cases.
    Warehouse: A structured data storage layer optimized for analytics and reporting, ideal for Power BI reports needing clean data.

    I've explained one by one what is OneLake, Fabric, Data Lake, Lake House, Warehouse and how do they connect to Power BI.

    Scope of Microsoft Fabric

    Microsoft Fabric have data movement to data science, Real-Time Analytics, and Business Intelligence with the right scale needed to build a complete end-to-end analytics system and all-in-once analytics solutions for enterprises. 

    Scope of OneLake

    OneLake combines storage locations across different regions, clouds and all the compute engines automatically into a single logical lake without moving or duplicating data. OneLake is built on top of ADLS(azure Data Lake Storage) Gen2 and services as the tenant-wide store for data and can support any type of file, structured or unstructured and can be stored in any format, including Delta, Parquet, CSV, Json and more.

    Scope of Lakehouse

    Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse is a data architecture platform for storing, managing and analyzing structured and unstructured data in a single location. A Lakehouse present as a database and is built on top of a data lake using default file format delta parquet. Two pysical locations can be stored data that are provisioned automatically, files(unmanaged) or table(managed delta tables).

    Scope of Data Warehouse

    Microsoft Fabric Data Warehouse is a relational data warehouse built on an enterprise-grade distributed processing engine. It supports full transactional T-SQL capabilities, utilizing a SQL MPP Engine(Massively parallel processing engine) with Delta Tables and TDS endpoints(an application-level protocol used for the transfer of requests and responses between clients and database server systems), providing complete T-SQL DDL and DML support.

     
    For PBI Connect:
    You can choose 2 options: One is connect from PBI Desktop, Second is directly in the web there is an option you can create a report from Warehouse or Lakehose etc.
