We have an embedded Power BI Report which have worked just fine when the data source was Live Dataset. We changed the data source to Direct Query to do some small adjustments, but then all visuals started to fail in embedded mode. The error message on all visuals where "Couldn't retrieve the data for this visual. Please try again later."
The report works perfectly when running it directly in the Power BI Service, but fails when running embedded.
This must be a bug?
Regards
Hi, and thanks @ponnusamy! But after some reading in the doc I found this:
"Using Power BI Embedded with datasets that include a DirectQuery connection to a Power BI datasets or Azure Analysis Services model is not currently supported"
So unfortunately it seems like this isn't going to work yet...
@AslakJonhaugen : In the past, I have observed delays in propogating the changes when we publish the updated reports. Sometimes up to 15 to 20 minutes. Refresh you cache and try again after 15 to 20 minutes.
Check out the May 2026 Power BI update to learn about new features.
