Power BI services - refresh issue

Hi all,

I have build a Warehouse in Fabric, everything works fine, then I connected Desktop file to this Warehouse and refresh desktop file and everything just working excelent, but when i published this desktop to PowerBI Services refresh stop working and I'm getting credentials error which is not possible, because I'm always using same credentials for fabric, desctop basically everything.

Any ideas what is causing this issue? It looks like there is something in services blocking my access, not sure.

When I try to update credentials direct in Services, still getting error, but credentials must be correct for sure.

Hi. The credentials added in desktop are not going to be inserted at the web portal. When you import data at desktop it works locally, once published you need to specify them. When the data is in the some cloud sources, you don't need gateway configurations. Right there you are on a gateway configuration UI. Instead of going there, look the semantic model in the workspace and go to the settings or schedule refresh. In there you should see a Data Souce Credentials section to expand. Edit the credentials and you will be ready to go.

I hope that helps,

Hi @lucie_raboch

When you publish a report from Power BI Desktop to the Service, the credentials you used locally don’t carry over. That’s why the refresh fails even though it worked fine on your desktop.

Could you please check these steps:

  • In the Power BI Service, go to the dataset settings and check Data source credentials.

  • Re-enter the credentials there even if they’re the same.

  • If you're using a gateway, make sure it’s online and mapped to the right source.

Also, if you're using SQL Server, double-check whether you’re using basic authorisation or Windows authorisation sometimes the Service needs you to explicitly select one.
