Power BI report does not shows some visuals
- 4 months ago
Hi peternguyen2 ,
Thank you for your patience
The extra information you provided is very helpful and may indicate the root cause of the issue.
Since your report uses Direct Query to another Power BI semantic model (a chained or composite model setup), the problem may not be with the gateway itself. In Power BI Service, some visuals can fail in cases such as:
- Limitations related to composite models or chained semantic models
- Certain visuals generating queries that exceed Service or backend resource limits
- Build permissions or credentials not fully propagating across semantic models
Since only some visuals fail but refresh works, this suggests the semantic model query execution path might be failing for specific visuals, rather than a general connectivity problem.
Here are a few things to try:
Replace the failing visual with a simple table using the same fields or measures.
Check if the semantic model is hosted in a different workspace or capacity.
Make sure all users and the gateway connection have Build permission on the source semantic model.
If possible, import a small subset of data instead of using Direct Query to see if the issue is related to chained semantic model queries.

Hi peternguyen2
From your observation it appears that you are having an issue connecting to the underlying data source. I would recommend logging onto the on premises gateway and making sure that you can successfully connect to the data source first. Once that is done you can then try and recreate a connection to see if that will then work. Once that works you should then be able to map it back to your power BI semantic model.

Hi,
There are no issues with the gateway or the connections.
The workspace type is Power BI ProPower BI Desktop reads the data source via DirectQuery from the Power BI semantic model dataset as screenshot attached
Could this be the root of the issue?
