Power BI refresh to Dataverse inconsistently slow

Refreshing the same Power BI report in the service connected to a Dataverse source can range in time from less than 1 second to more than 10 minutes. Occasionally it says it's refreshing for over an hour and I try to cancel it to fix it. What causes the inconsistency? I don't think its an issue with the data model in the report because it often can take 1 second to refresh.

Hi @jgmoore ,

Is my follow-up just to ask if the problem has been solved?

If so, can you accept the correct answer as a solution or share your solution to help other members find it faster?

Thank you very much for your cooperation!

Do you remove all the columns you're not using from the query? That can help a TON with refresh speed, because the Dataverse tables come with hundreds of columns on them. It does throttle you on usage, so if you have several refreshes running around the same time it could be that.

Hi @jgmoore

I think that might be because it is reliant on sufficient capacity in the Power BI service and from Dataverse. So at times it could be that both are under a lot of load and that is why it takes some time to update?

What happens if you had to try at at different time of day, does it load quicker?

@GilbertQ Good point, we're using data from Microsoft Project and there are times when many users are updating their Project plans. That could be when the issues occur.
