Power BI on premises Gateways

Hi Fabric Community,

I need help about my powerBI project.
I have four data sources in four different Database servers
   1 : MySql Database in server 1
   2 : MySql Database in server 2
   3 : MySql Database in server 3
   4 : MySql Database in server 4
I setup on premise gateways in four computers one for each database server.
But I can't connect more than one gateway to the same project for a scheduled data refresh.
Is there any solution for that ?

T
hanks in advance

I setup on premise gateways in four computers one for each database server.

While you can do that you should rather combine all these into a single Gateway cluster.

Then create four connections for that cluster, one connection for each database.

Hi,

FatmaNagy
I agree with the solution provided by
lbendlin which is effective and efficient.  Here is  the step by step process of how to implement this in Power bi service.

Set up a Single Gateway Cluster:

  • Install the On-Premises Data Gateway only once on a machine that has network access to all four MySQL servers in the Power BI Service.
  • To enhance redundancy, install the gateway on more than one machine and configure them on the same cluster to support failover.

CREATE Different Connections for Each of the Database :

  • For example, after creating the gateway cluster go to Power BI Service settings.
  • In Manage Gateways, select the cluster and add four data source connections with each pointing to one of the MySQL servers.
  • Enter the server name, database, authentication information, and other necessary settings for every single connection

Connect Power BI Dataset to the Gateway Cluster:

  • When configuring the Power BI dataset, choose the gateway cluster as the data gateway.Since the dataset will now have access to all four MySQL database connections within the same cluster, Power BI will use this setup for scheduled refreshes across all the data sources.

Please give a Kudos if this solution meets your goal.
Thanks,
Vinay.

Hi @FatmaNagy ,

You can choose one frequently turned on device as the primary gateway and the others as gateway clusters. Create the appropriate four connections in the master gateway so that you can get data or refresh normally on the other devices.

Hope it helps!
