Power BI embedded in Dynamics - no access to report, but access when using link directly

We are embedding a Power BI report in Dynamics 365 through the built in embedded functionality and getting a link like;

<control id="subgrid_tariff_foretak" classid="{8C54228C-1B25-4909-A12A-F2B968BB0D62}">
                      <parameters>
                            <PowerBIGroupId><id></PowerBIGroupId>
                            <PowerBIReportId><id></PowerBIReportId>
                            <TileUrl>https://app.powerbi.com/reportEmbed?reportId=<id>&amp;appId=<id>&amp;autoAuth=true&amp;pageName=ac21406e9061ddc80923</TileUrl>
                      </parameters>
   </control>

(We have also tried with embedding from the workspace. and not throuhg app link)

Our problem is that when users attempt to access the report within Dynamics they get an error message that they don't have access to the report. If they access the link directly it works, and if they first access the link directly it also works in Dynamics!

Any ideas on why this happens, and how to avoid it?

Hi @HelgeG

Right now Dynamics isn’t passing your Power BI login smoothly, so the embed fails until you’ve already opened Power BI directly.

The quick fixes are:

  • Add users to the workspace itself, not just the app.

  • Turn on the Power BI service principal in Azure AD so Dynamics can request tokens.

  • Make sure the browser allows third‑party cookies.

Once those are in place, the report should open inside Dynamics without the “no access” error.

Did it work? 👍 A kudos would be appreciated
