Power BI desktop Hang - Not responding

All in sudden, when I am trying to open pbix file, it gives me 2 messages as below:

1. pending changes

2. recovered file

I am trying to close both by Clicking on X, Dischard changes - View Recovered Files and then select 'No, remove the files', But every time it is getting hang and I have to kill the process in Task Manager.

I am not able to go anywhere from this stage. Already restarted machine multiple times but that is also not wokring out.

Request for your quick help, suggestions, solution please...

  • I'd suggest that you uninstall and re-install the power bi desktop. Sounds like it is corrupted.

    Hi DataSpace ,

1.Try clearing the cache by deleting the files in the following path:

    C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\Cache

2.Try opening other .pbix files to check if the same problem exists. If not, backup the file and then recovered file.

    Hope it helps!

I have deleted all the files from mentioned path, also uninstalled and re-installed PBI Desktop.

'Recovered File' message disappeared. And I am able to 'Apply changes'. Also able to refresh.

But problem still exists-- When I try to save file, it goes forever on "Working On it" mode.

I have to kill the process all the time to restart.

This is happening with all the existing files where source is Sharepoint folder (with excel files on it). other pbix are fine.

I am now thinking to develop my report from scratch, not sure if new report also will have same problem.

Meanwhile if any of you still have any solution/suggestion , please do let me know.

        Hi DataSpace ,

Try to clean up the credentials for the sharepoint source.
