Power BI Workspace Datasets License Permissions

Hello,

 

I'm interested in setting up a PowerBI dataset in a workspace for my team of ~20 to access with analyze in excel. I'm very uncertain as to what license level everyone would need. Could someone tell me what license would be needed to:

 - Create the workspace that will host one or a couple data sets

 - Publish a dataset to the workspace

 - create reports from the dataset or access the dataset in excel

 

From what I've gathered it seems like the requirements for the 2nd 2 points depends on the license level of the person hosting the workspace but I couldn't determine anything for sure.

    Hi Scott7987,

    If you just started, the easiest and most cost effective would be to get all your team get Pro License i.e ~20 x $10USD per month.

    Why do all of them need Pro?

    1. Access to a Power BI collaborative workspace is only for Pro users*
    2. You need to host your dataset in a Power BI collaborative workspace
    3. Dataset in a workspace can only be consumed* by users (your team of 20) with Pro license ( could be through sharing dataset/report or adding users into the workspace)

     

    *unless you have Premium Capacity at least P1 node that cost ~$6k monthly.
