Power BI Slicers are not retaining selected text in the drop down

Power BI Slicers are not retaining selected text in the drop down - I have tested this both on Edge and Chrome browser latest version and even if the report is filtered the selected value in the slicer shows "All" which is incorrect. it only happens when you leave the report page and revisit it again. or if you use book marks to hide the slicer and open it again, the slicer is active but the value it show is All.

Hi @sgolestaneh,

You can use the latest PBIX version.

This issue does not happen in version 2.143.1378.0 (May 2025).

It does happen in the following versions:
2.144.878.0
2.146.1133.0 (August 2025)

Hi! Experiencing the same issue on grouped columns for dashboards published to the Powerbi Service. Also this occurs in the desktop on bookmarked tabs even when 'update' performed. Is there a support ticket number that can be provided that I can also reference to see if/when the issue has been resolved? Thank you so much!!!

@abshann just noticed that group based slicers retain values again! thanks for raining this issue and pushing for fixes with MS!

@v-hjannapu @juditm @CranialyticsDev @collinq @sgolestaneh

There could be another possibility. In PBI Setting > (CURRENT FILE) Report Settings > Persistent Filters
"Don't allow end user to save filters on this file in the Power BI Service"

If this option is selected, then this could make your slicers to reset when you return to your page.

Hope this could help you in resolving the issue.

hello @CranialyticsDev unfortunatley its not this issue at all.

Its a bug which has been recently introduced...

Hi @abshann,
Could you please share us the PBIX file in which you are facing this issue as we are unable to reproduce from our end. Having the file would help us identify the root cause and suggesting the next steps.

Regards,
Community Support Team.

@v-hjannapu @juditm apologies, took me time to get back here, I posted a support ticket with Microsoft team today, the team have accepted the issue with Grouped values column not behaving correctly when used in slicer drop down - they are going to investigate this bug. Unfortunately its not possible for me to share the pbix file here - since its not supported on this platform for me.

Hi @abshann,
Thank you for the update. If you have found a solution, please share it here, as it will help other community members facing similar issues. Looking forward to your response.

Regards,
Harshitha Jannapu.

@abshann thank you for the update, I appreciate it. Looking forward to see if they can resolve the issue. It's is very inconvenient, especially for less experienced report users. Do we have to stay away from using groupped values in slicers then?

I checked it against one of my dashboards and it appears to be resolved now. Have a great rest of your day!

@abshann , @collinq we are experiencing the same issue when using group based slicers in our reports. We didn't notice this behavior until recently.

hello @abshann @pcool , we have also noticed the same behavior on group based slicers in our BI reports. This is something recent independent from our internal data, previously these slicers behaved normal and displayed selected values.

Appears to have been resolved. Have a great rest of your day!
