Power BI Service > Data Flow > Connect to shared SharePoint file

Hi,

In a data flow we use an Excel file from a share point environment.

De sharepoint group/ team is owned by 2 persons.

When the data flow is taken over by 1 of the owner, the on-premise gateway is added but the connenction to the file cannot be made > credentials are invalid. Can this be caused because the SP is depending on the log in credentials of 1 of the owners?

Can anybody help me with this?

Hi @Moniek_NL

You can troubleshoot by following these steps:

  • Verify that the account being used to connect has Read access to the SharePoint location where the Excel file is stored. Sometimes it may be necessary to have read access to a file or folder even if the account is the owner.
  • Please check if the gateway login account has read access to that excel.

If the problem persists, please provide a screenshot of the error details. We can better understand the problem and help you.

Best Regards,
Yulia Xu

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for the quick response.

We checked the permissions on the file and those are OK.

I do not exactly understand the "Please check if the gateway login account has read access to that excel". The gateway only passes through credentials of users with permissions to the data. Currently the Gateway account has no permissions at all and the refresh and editing of all other sources works OK.

The credentials on my account work OK, but when my collegue (with same permissions) takes over we get the error. When I take over again it works as it should. Just tried again and now my collegue also gets access...? So it seems fixed for now, even though we did not change a thing, strange but nice ;-).
