Power BI Service Shows Mixed Languages for Fields from SSAS Cube

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing an issue with field names in Power BI Service when using a live connection to an Analysis Services (SSAS) cube. Some field names appear in German (which is the default language), while others show up in English, even though all translations are correctly defined in the cube.

In Power BI Desktop, everything displays correctly in German. However, once the report is published to the Power BI Service, the inconsistency appears.

Here’s what I’ve already checked:

  • Browser and OS language are set to German
  • Power BI Service user profile language is set to German
  • Adding &language=de to the report URL had no effect
  • The cube contains proper German translations for all fields

Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this?

    Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.


    While this typically has less impact with Live connections, you can try opening the dataset settings in Power BI Service and ensure the regional settings match German.

    Sometimes Power BI Service may default to English for untranslated members or calculated fields, particularly if the model includes derived objects that are not fully localized.

      Hi,

      Actually, it's not just calculated fields or untranslated members. The issue also affects standard measures, calculated measures, and even dimension levels. All of these members have proper captions in the OLAP cube, and they work correctly when using Power BI Desktop or Excel.

      Where exactly can I find the regional settings for a specific dataset?

        Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum. 


        Since you're using a Live Connection to SSAS, there’s no dataset settings page in Power BI Service because the data stays in the SSAS cube and isn't imported into Power BI. That means you won’t see regional settings like you would with imported datasets. The model and translations are controlled on the SSAS side. Actually regional and language settings can be seen on top right corner settings.

         



        This is a known limitation in some environments, and you might want to test the same behaviour using Excel with the same credentials to confirm if the issue is on the SSAS side or how Power BI Service interprets the locale.
