Power BI Service Fails to Access Report Data Source - On-premises Gateway Connected

Hi everyone,

I created a report on Power BI Desktop using a Direct Query connection (to SQL server database) and then published the report to Power BI Service. The data model (semantic model) and data tables were visible.

However, the dashboard fails to show the content of the reports, i.e., the charts and figures, but only shows the shapes and texts.

It says, "This report can't access the data source for the visuals. Please contact the author ('myname')."

Please note that there is a Standard On-premise Gateway installed and connected on both Power BI Service and the PC, which looks okay as the status is Online when checked under Connection and Manager Gateways. The only thing out of the ordinary is a path in Custom Connection tab under the On-premises App on the PC, which says "Folder not found," and I am yet to find what folder or app path to put. Could this be the issue?

Please, what could be the issue, and how can I solve it? Apologies, PBIX file or image is not available. Thank you for your help.

Hi @Kdottt99

According to your description Your pbix is not connected to the source via the Gateway. What is the source? can you screenshot your Gateway connection in the service?

Hello,

Sadly, I don't have the gateway screenshot at the moment. The gateway is supposed to connect to the SQL Server where I sourced the data for the report created in Desktop.

Window authentication was used for the gateway connection.

The Gateway is supposedly to be installed on-prem, either in your machine or where the server is located. In Power BI service the Gateway should be available to connect your pbix to the SQL Server.

Thank you.

Yes, the gateway is also installed and connected on my machine as well. Or maybe it wasn't done properly. I will try to get my hands on few screenshots and upload tomorrow afternoon to provide more context.

Thanks for your assistance.
