Power BI Service Dataset Refresh Keeps Spinning

I have a small power BI dataset connected to Synapse via gateway. Today it suddenly stopped refreshing sucessfully. When manually initiated, the refresh will keep spinning, and the refresh history status window shows "In progress" for over an hour. Normally this dataset takes about 1 minute to refresh.

 

Questions:

1. is there any way to stop the refresh in the service or diagnose what's going on that's causing it to stall?

2. I have promoted this dataset thru QA, and Pre production synapse/power BI workspaces and it has no issues refreshing in the other environments. I can download this dataset and refresh it in Power BI Desktop without any problem. Any idea why it would have this issue when published in the service?

    Hi liangp ,

     

    First of all, could you please restart the gateway to troubleshoot issues with the gateway?

    Could you please check whether there are RLS or complex logic operations in the report Optimize the report , check if there are other datasets in this workspace refreshing at the same time.

    Whether the workspace capacity is sufficient?

    Whether there is a refresh timeout problem?

    Is it stuck all the time or will there be an error message at the end?

    If there is any Please provide the error message.

      thanks, it looks like it finally came back with an error after 5 hours. it was a credential error on the gateway, so I think I have a path forward now. I don't have access to the gateway configuration at my organization so I will have to reach out to others.
