Power BI Service : Couldn't retrieve the data for this visual. Please try again later.

Data source is SQL server. Only reports with this data source are having this error and it only started today.

The gateway is online connected fine, but the data does not display in Power BI service, only Power BI desktop. No RLS set up

Hi @naveenanda_vam ,

Based on the testing, I am testing import mode and DirectQuery mode to get the data. I can see the reports with SQL Server data source in power bi service.

So, try to check the SQL query and try again open the report.

Hi. Unless you are working with DirectQuery and the visual you want to build uses too much data, then my assumption is that you might be using a measure with your visual that is responsible for retrieving too much data. Check if the data can be loaded when you remove measures one by one, to identify the measure(s) that is/are responsible. You can check that editing the report at Service. Once you know which measure is, analyze the code to check if there is a way to optimize it or consider to post the measure code here so we can help with that.

I hope that helps,
