Power BI Report Server vs Power BI Premium

Hi,

My organisation is currently using Power BI Report Server on-premise. Access to the report server outside of the organisation's network requires the use of a VPN. We have a new report/dashboard requirement - the project sponsor hope that this report/dashboard can be accessed publicly by a group of users without the use of a VPN. What are the options? The dashboard currently sits in the report server on-premise. Will moving to Power BI service on cloud and on premium capacity work? This group of users only need to view the report/dashboard and not create/edit.

Hope for some advice.

Hi @Zvon

Power BI solution is definitely the key to your inquiry. Opting for Pro licenses or Premium capacity will depend on the business use case.

Hi @Zvon ,

Premium capacity is not nonessential. Since it is only needed for viewing, you can use embed code to put the report into a website. For dashboards, you can create subscriptions for them. Of course if there is more need, it is better to host them in Premium capacity.

Hope it helps!
