Power BI Plan and Capacity
Hi all,
We are building an insurance agency application that would be logged in by users of different roles (viewing different set/group of information). One of the features is to have a PowerBI dashboard that would be able to pull data set from the existing DB and generate customized reports that would be different based on different user logins.
For example,
Sales staff -> View reports based on their own dataset
Sales Manager - View reports with dataset belonging to all their sales staff
Q1:
Given the scenario above, the reports that will be displayed on the portal will be personalized for different users (each user seeing different dataset).
So would this require the Premium Capacity-Based Plan or it can also be done with Premium User-Based Plan?
Q2:
Given that this application is open to public (for all agents), is there any capacity on usage that we are looking at (how many usage at a time)?

I have to admit that I do not understand some of your questions/requirements. I assume this is maybe due to your using of terms in an unfamiliar context.
I do not understand the usage of the phrase "each user seeing different dataset", maybe you are using the term dataset to describe a portion of Power BI dataset, if this is the case, have a closer look at Row Level Security: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/enterprise/service-admin-rlsRow Level Security is available on all licensing plans.
I do not understand "generate customized reports", it's absolutely not possible that the content of a report can be generated or customized. But maybe this is also due to my misunderstanding of "customized" reports. I understand: depending on a role - the content (the number of data visualizations and the type of these visualizations) has to adapt. But maybe, this can also be achieved using Row Level Security.

Then what is an agent, and how many agents will access your Power BI app. Either you assign an agent a Power BI Pro license or you provide access to an Power BI app backed by Premium Per Capacity licensing model. Depending on the number of agents, the management of Pro licenses is "eating" the cost savings in comparison to the price of a Premium Per Capacity model.
